
Seven 49er distance runners concluded the first day of the Stanford Invitational on Friday at Cobb Track and Angell Field.
Senior Carly Harris led the women with a first-place finish in her section of the 1500-meter run. Harris clocked in with a lifetime best and the seventh-fastest time in school history at 4:31.37. Junior Missy Barclay also had a strong race, placing fourth in the same section (4:31.89).
Senior Sarah Apgar competed in the 5000m, finishing eighth in her section with a mark of 17:21.03.
Senior Kristina Wilson wrapped up the action for the women, running the third-fastest 10000m time in school history at 36:04.07.
On the men’s side, junior Alex Freitas put up a Big West qualifying mark of 3:52.00 in the 1500m, while freshmen Raul Arcos (3:57.47) and Matt Maldonado (3:58.04) competed in the event for the first time this season.
Freitas and Arcos will close out the Stanford Invitational for Long Beach State on Saturday as the duo competes in the 800-meter run beginning at 2:14 p.m. The rest of the 49ers will be at the Cal-Nevada Championships at Drake Stadium on the campus of UCLA.
