
Long Beach State concluded a successful weekend at the Stanford Invitational Saturday afternoon at Cobb Track and Angell Field. Seven 49er distance runners competed in the two-day event.
On Friday, senior Carly Harris led the women with a first-place finish in Section 4 of the 1500-meter run. Harris clocked in with a lifetime best and the seventh-fastest mark in school history at 4:31.37. Junior Missy Barclay also had a strong race, placing fourth in the same heat (4:31.89).
Senior Sarah Apgar competed in the 5000m, finishing eighth in her section with a time of 17:21.03.
Senior Kristina Wilson wrapped up the action for the women, running a personal record and the third-fastest 10000m time in school history at 36:04.07.
On the men’s side, junior Alex Freitas put up a Big West qualifying mark of 3:52.00 in the 1500m, while freshmen Raul Arcos (3:57.47) and Matt Maldonado (3:58.04) both competed in the event for the first time this season.
Freitas and Arcos also took part in the 800-meter run on Saturday afternoon to close out the meet for The Beach. Freitas placed seventh overall as he crossed the finish line in 1:50.50, just .1 seconds off an NCAA Regional qualifying time. Arcos, meanwhile, posted a lifetime-best 1:53.09.
