10:00 | The Long Beach State track and field team kicks off the 2010 indoor season this weekend as it heads to the Pole Vault Summit and the Washington Invitational, Jan. 29-30.
Six 49ers will travel to Reno, Nev., for the Pole Vault Summit this weekend. The annual event will bring international and collegiate programs together for elite level clinics and seminars on Friday, Jan. 29, before the competition takes place on Saturday (Jan. 30). Brandon Dawes, Katelyn Beighton, Laura Faris, Kayla Kamaka, Amanda Klinchuch and Cheryl Smith will represent The Beach at the two-day event.
“I’m really excited about this group,” said 49er head coach Andy Sythe. “We want to use this event to stimulate our learning and catapult us into a great season for our jumpers.”
Long Beach State will also send nine runners to the Washington Invitational in Seattle this weekend. The 49ers will compete in both the women’s (Jessica Barnard, Denise Nunez, Annie Randall, Alisia Barajas) and men’s (Jonathan Evans, Kenneth Medwood, Mario Granville, Alex Freitas) distance medley relays on Friday. Individual events, including the mile, 800m and 3000m will then take place on Saturday.
