The Long Beach State women’s golf team recorded a 37-over par 325 on Wednesday’s final round to finish in 14th place in the inaugural Bruin Wave Invitational hosted by UCLA and Pepperdine.
The 49ers carded a 308 in the opening round in the 18-team field at the Robinson Ranch Golf Club to finish 12th on Monday and recorded a 312 in the second round to tie for 13th.
Southern California claimed the team title with a two-under 866 as the No. 6 Trojans held onto a two-stroke lead over No. 2 Arizona State (868) and six strokes over top ranked UCLA (872). Ninth ranked Pepperdine finished in fourth with an 873.
Simone Hoey led the way for the 49ers as she shot a final round of 81 to finish in 50th with a 231 (+15). Hoey recorded eight bogey’s for the day, with one double-bogey at the par-four 371 yard No. 6 hole. She had just one birdie for the round on Wednesday. Hoey committed just two bogeys in the second round as she tied for 30th and three bogeys in the first round.
Noelle Zavaleta finished second for The Beach as she carded a 76 to improve by three strokes as she tied for 57th with a 234 (+18). Zavaleta recorded a 79 in both first and second rounds.
Monica Villarreal and Brenda Chhuor shot a final round of 84 as Villarreal finished in 63rd with a 236 (+20) and Chhuor tied for 76th with a 244 (+28).
Reina Rogers shot an 88 as she tied for 89th with a 251 (+35).
Danielle Kang of Pepperdine claimed the individual medalist with a 208 (-8) as she held onto a three shot lead over Jodi Ewart of New Mexico (211) and four shots over Stephanie Kono of UCLA (212).
The 49ers return to action as they travel to San Jose for the Julie Inkster Spartan Invitational, Mar. 8-9, hosted by San Jose State.
