The Long Beach State women’s golf team completed day one of the Big West Conference Championship at the par-72, 6,168 San Luis Obispo Country Club with a 19-over 307 to finish in third place.

The 49ers remain just nine strokes behind first place No. 31 UC Davis (298) and one stroke behind No. 40 UC Irvine (306). UC Riverside and Cal State Northridge are tied for fourth as both teams finished 10 shots behind the 49ers, followed by Cal Poly in sixth and Cal State Fullerton in seventh.

Individually for the 49ers, junior Reina Rogers was the top player for LBSU as she fired a 75 to finish in a four-way tie for third and remain just three shots behind Alice Kim of UC Davis as she sits on top of the leaderboard with a 72. Rogers started the round with five consecutive pars until she came to the par-4 No. 6 hole where she recorded three bogeys in a row as she finished out the front-nine with a birdie for a two-over 38. Rogers played the back at three-over with one birdie and two bogeys.

Freshman Simone Hoey and sophomore Noelle Zavaleta finished the day tied for seventh as both players carded a 77. Hoey recorded four bogeys for the day, all coming in at the first-nine holes as she made the turn at four-over. Her only birdie for the day came at the par-4 15th hole and capped the round with a double-bogey on the last hole. Zavaleta had two birdies and seven bogeys for the round, four of them coming in consecutively on the last four holes on the front-nine.

Sophomore Monica Villarreal recorded a 78 to tie for 13th as she started the round with a double-bogey, while junior Lindsey McAtee tied for 23rd with an 81.
