10:00pm |  Long Beach State’s first day in the pool started on a low note, losing 13-1 to No. 10 ASU and 7-2 to No. 17 CS Bakersfield at the UC Irvine mini-tournament on Saturday.

Against CS Bakersfield, junior goaltender Kristen Stragier made a match-high 10 saves, but the 49ers fell behind 4-2 by halftime and were shutout in the third and fourth periods by the roadrunners in the loss. Senior Branwyn Lee had a goal as did freshman Chelsea Grabowski.

In the first match of the day, Kristen Stragier made eight saves and Julie Lantz scored the 49ers’ only goal as The Beach lost to Arizona State 13-1. Mariam Salloum had three goals for the Sun Devils.

Long Beach State returns to the Campus Pool for the team’s home opener next week, hosting No.2 USC at 7 p.m. on February 4.
