The Long Beach State women’s soccer team battled UC Riverside to a 1-1 tie in a Big West Conference match Sunday afternoon at George Allen Field.

The Beach (5-9-3, 1-4-1) posted its second-highest shot total of the year with 19, while holding the Highlanders to 13 attempts.

Junior Lindsay Bullock led the 49ers with one goal on a career-high tying eight shots, while sophomore Emily Kingsborough manned the net, compiling four saves.

UC Riverside (5-8-4, 0-5-1 BWC) struck first when Ashley Parks headed a corner kick from Denise Thomas to the near post in the 18th minute. Despite being out shot 12-8 in the first half, UCR was able to maintain its 1-0 lead until the break.

LBSU’s best opportunity to get on the board in the first 45 minutes came at the 15:15 mark when Bullock hit a solid sliding shot that went just over the crossbar.

Bullock did eventually even the score in the second half with her fourth goal of the season. In the 56th minute, freshman Alex Balcer sent a free kick into the box that was tapped out by Highlander goalkeeper Jessica White, but the ball went right to Bullock, who found the back of the net from about 15 yards out.

After a defensive battle in the first overtime, the 49ers started to put the pressure on in the second extra period with five shots. LBSU’s best chance came just 23 seconds after the start of play as junior Kristen Kiefer had an open look from the right side that went just wide.

Long Beach State returns to action later this week when it closes out the regular season on the road. The Beach heads to UC Irvine on Thursday, Oct. 29, for a 7 p.m. PT showdown, before making its way to Cal State Northridge on Sunday (Nov. 1). The 49ers and Matadors are set to kick-off at 1 p.m. PT.
