Sophomore Katie Rogers scored four goals to help Long Beach State defeat Cal Baptist 7-6 in the team’s third match at the Lancer Invitational.
A late 6-on-5 goal by Megan Morales after both teams worked to a 6-6 tie over three quarters proved to be the game-winner, with the goal coming with seven minutes to play. The 49ers then turned to their defense, as Kristen Stragier made four of her 11 saves in the final period to seal the win.
Long Beach State took an early 2-1 lead, as Rogers scored her first goal and was joined by Branwyn Lee to help the 49ers get out in front. Rogers then added two more and Lauren Sieprath scored her seventh goal of the tournament to help the 49ers take a 5-3 lead into the half.
Cal Baptist mounted a rally in the third however, outscoring Long Beach State three goals to one to force the tie moving into the final quarter.
The 49ers finished their stay in Riverside with a 10-8 win over Occidental.
