The 49ers shot back, firing in two more goals to take a 4-3 advantage heading into the second period. Two goals from USC early in the second gave the Trojans their first lead of the game, but another 6-on-5 goal from Long Beach’s Jake Kinne equalized the score once again. The Trojans then went on a run, scoring five goals in a row, taking a 9-5 lead into the half.
The Niners scored only four goals in the second half to USC’s six, and the Trojans held off any upset effort by Long Beach, winning by a score of 15-8. The Beach had three players with two goals each, including Jake Kinne, Jeff Greenwood and Ash Blythen. Justin Koeppen and Mike Del Grande also contributed to the effort with one goal a piece. Derek Wiebe-Bailey counted six goalie saves in the match.
