The 49ers have out performed expectations this season with first-year head coach Jody Wynn, and they are going to take on the Gauchos in their first game of the Big West Tournament after UCSB beat Pacific yesterday, 82-54.

Long Beach State evened its all-time series with UC Santa Barbara by sweeping the Gauchos for the first time since the 1990-91 season. UCSB, however, owns a 7-3 advantage in Big West Tournament meetings as it has won the last seven postseason games.

The Gauchos (13-16, 9-7 BWC) ended the regular season on a five-game winning streak. Emilie Johnson has paced UCSB with 13.9 points per game, while Mekia Valentine (12.2 ppg) and Meagan Williams (11.0 ppg) are also averaging double figures. Valentine is tops on the team with 9.1 rebounds per outing.
