Junior Lauren Sims (Fullerton, CA) has been named to the 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII women’s basketball second team the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday.

Sims, who boasts a 4.0 cumulative grade-point average in biology, earned academic All-Big West honors as a sophomore last year.

The 5-foot-9 guard is currently second on the team with 24 3-pointers made and fifth in scoring with 7.3 points per contest. Sims has posted six double-figure scoring games this season, including a career-high 22 points at Cal State Northridge. She also had a season-best five rebounds and four assists against the Matadors.

In her two-plus years at The Beach, Sims already ranks among the 49er all-time top 10 in career 3-point field goal percentage (.339), 3-point field goals attempted (227) and 3-point field goals made (77).

To be eligible for ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average, be a significant contributor to the team and must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing.
