Long Beach State shot a 18-over par 306 in the opening round of the Wave Invitational at the Moorpark Country Club to finish in fourth place, and  Senior Kay Hoey was the top player for the No. 47 49ers as she carded a one-over 73 to finish in a three-way tie for ninth place.  The tournament host Pepperdine leads the field of six-teams with a comfortable 11-stroke lead over second place Brigham Young and UNLV.

Hoey is just seven shots behind first place Natalia Jimenez of Brigham Young as she leads the field of 43 players.  Junior Brenda Chhuor and freshman Lee Lopez are both tied for 15th as both players shot a four-over 76 in Tuesday’s opening round.

Sophomore Lindsey McAtee tied for 29th with a nine-over 81 while fellow classman Reina Rogers tied for 33rd as she shot a 10-over 82.

Final round play concludes on Wednesday morning at 8am
