After a disappointing loss to Utah on Friday, the 49ers came out kicking (and scoring) against Utah State on Sunday, defeating them 3-0 to improve to 5-2-2 on the season.  Four of the five wins were shutouts in which the 49ers scored three or more goals.

The three goals in the second half tied a school-record.  The 49ers outshot the Aggies 10–5, allowing just one shot on goal, while posting their fifth shutout of the season.

LBSU finally broke through in the 75th minute, as Kim Silos took a pass from Mariko Strickland and found the lower right corner to make it 1-0. A minute earlier, Silos’ shot had been saved by Ali Griffin in a sign of things to come, as the 49ers missed on their first five attempts of the contest.

Utah State tried to respond four minutes later, but goalkeeper Liz Ramos made her only save of the contest on a Lindsay Smart shot as the 49ers tacked on two goals to put the match out of reach.

Lindsay Bullock made it 2-0 in the 82nd minute, heading in a long cross from Nicole Hubbard, before Kristen Kiefer finished off the scoring with three seconds left till the end of regulation, scoring from 11 yards out to make it 3-0.

The 49ers return to action next weekend when they travel to Arizona on Friday and Arizona State on Sunday.
