Finally, some good news.  With our inboxes filling with reports about Long Beach State’s Men’s Water Polo and Women’s Volleyball teams losing critical matches, we knew we could count on Coach Ingrassia’s team to cheer us up.  Lindsay Bullock scored two goals and Long Beach State (6-2-2) gave Arizona (6-3-0) its first loss at home, defeating the Wildcats 2-0 on Friday evening.

Bullock opened up the scoring in the 21st minute, taking a pass from Kristen Kiefer to make it 1-0. Bullock finished off the scoring in the 61st minute, taking a tally from Mariko Strickland and doubling the score for the 49ers.  LBSU, which posted its sixth shutout of the season, limited Arizona to just five shots. Liz Ramos had her 32.5th career shutout, as the 49er defense limited Arizona to one shot on goal, in the second half. The 49ers took 12 shots on the night.

Arizona was ranked eighth in the region and were riding a four match winning streak prior to the loss to the 49ers, in the first meeting between the two programs. Arizona was also ranked just outside the top-30 entering the week.

The Beach travels to Arizona State for a contest on Sunday to close out a four-match road trip. LBSU opens up Big West play on October 3 against UC Davis at home.
