The Long Beach State cross country teams completed the Big West Conference Championships on Saturday morning at UC Riverside’s Agricultural Operations course as the women’s team finished in fourth place with 100 points and the men’s squad finished in fifth with 117 points.
Cal Poly won the men’s team title for the seventh consecutive year as the Mustangs collected 28 points, followed by UC Santa Barbara in second with 67 and UC Davis with 81 points. On the women’s side, the Gauchos captured the team championship with 50 points, followed by UC Davis with 61 and Cal Poly at 74 points.
Senior Missy Barclay was the top runner for the women as she finished in eighth and recorded a personal best in the 6K with a time of 21:01. Barclay’s previous best was 21:33 at last year’s Big West Championship.
Freshman Annie Randall continued her impressive first year performance as a 49er as she crossed the finish line in 13th and recorded a personal best of 21:15. Randall’s previous mark was 22:15 at the Stanford Invitational.
Sophomore Alisia Barajas rounded out the top three for The Beach as she finished in 18th at 21:21.
Other 49ers competing included Junior Jennifer Rodriguez crossed the finish line in 26th (21:46), followed by freshman Hillary Zator in 36th (22:08) and sophomore Liz Ramos in 37th (22:10).
Freshman Prism Garcia finished in 56th (23:09) and sophomore Jessica Barnard finished in 60th (23:23).
On the men’s side, the 49ers were led by junior Travis Kuhlman as he finished in 11th and recorded a personal best in the 8K by four seconds with a time of 24:32.
Coming in second for The Beach was junior Matt Maldonado in 16th (24:44), followed by senior Dylan Jaedtke in 17th (24:47).
Other 49ers competing were Mark Thomas in 38th (25:30), Raul Arcos in 40th (25:32), Steven DeCastro in 54th (26:26) and Jacob Ainsworth in 58th (27:13).
Josh Ruff finished in 60th in 27:23, while Jared Long crossed the line in 62nd at 27:42.
The 49ers return to action as they travel to Eugene, Ore. for the NCAA West Regional, Saturday, Nov. 14, hosted by the University of Oregon.
