As the Long Beach State women’s volleyball team marches on toward their goal of winning the Big West Conference and earning a favorable ranking in the NCAA Tournament this season, their star setter continues to rack up awards and milestones.

Senior setter Ashley Lee on Monday was named the National Player of the Week after notching her 1,000th career dig and then recording a very rare quadruple-double in a five-game win over UC Riverside. In that game, Lee recorded 50 assists, 13 digs, 10 kills and 10 block assists. It was the first quadruple-double in Long Beach State history and the first in the nation this season.

The 49ers have won five straight, and sit just one game behind Cal State Fullerton for first place in the Big West Conference. And oh, lookie here, Long Beach plays Fullerton this very weekend in a matchup that could determine this year’s conference champ. The game will begin at 7:00pm at Fullerton.

Questions swirled around the 49ers to begin this season when a rash of injuries sidelined several players, including Lee, but the senior came back with a vengeance and has made her case as the best all-around Long Beach State volleyball player since Misty May.

Just a few more weeks until the end of the season and Lee’s career as a 49er, so make sure to catch her next few games. After the vital Fullerton game, Long Beach hosts Cal Poly SLO on October 29.
