Reports From LBSU

Long Beach State men’s golfer Benjamin Lein was selected to the Honorable Mention All-Big West Conference team, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Lein, a freshman from Diamond Bar, finished in 25th place at the Big West Championship one week ago, recording a 12-over 228 at the two-day 54-hole tournament in San Luis Obispo. Lein helped the 49ers place third with an 895 (+31), finishing just five strokes behind second place Pacific (890).

Lein recorded two top-10 finishes during the 2009-2010 season, placing his highest finish at the 14th Annual Del Walker Intercollegiate in Long Beach as he tied for eighth, while also recording a career best low round of 67 at the Virginia Country Club. Lein finishes the season with a scoring average of 74.1.

“Ben has been a great asset to our program this year,” said head coach Bill Poutre. “He is very mature and has a great feel for the game. I expect him to continue to improve and be a top player in this league during his sophomore year. He works very hard and deserves this honor.”
