From August 5th through the 7th the La Mirada Regional Aquatics Center will host the Third Annual North American Challenge Cup.  This high level “all star” swim meet replaced its predecessor of many years, the Western Zone Meet.  Teams from Canada, Mexico and the Western US (Southern California, Pacific and Pacific Northwest) will compete.  Each team is comprised of 80 top notch swimmers made up of both boys and girls, separated by age groups: 11-12, 13-14, 15-16 and 17-18.   The athletes will be housed at Biola University for the duration of the meet.  This meet has been the starting block for current and past Olympians such as Aaron Piersol, Amanda Beard, and Kaitlin Sandeno.

Representing Southern California will be a member of local swim team Lakewood Aquatics, 12 year old Justin Daniel McArthur.  Daniel has been a top seeded Southern California Swimming and National swimmer since the tender age of 10 where he was ranked nationally as one of the top five 9-10 year old swimmers.  When he aged up to the new swim group of 11-12 year olds, he lost little ground and finds himself ranked in the 97th percentile of 11-12 year old boys in the nation!  At the Challenge Cup Daniel will try to improve on his NRTs (National Reportable Times) in the 200 meter backstroke as well as the 200 and 400 meter freestyle.

Coming on the heels of the World Swimming Championships in Rome, this local event showcasing amazing talent from 3 countries is a tremendous way to introduce your kids to the sport of swimming!

This prestigious meet for young swimmers is open to the public.
