The Long Beach Century Club yesterday announced the most recent class of local athletes that will be inducted into the club’s prestigious Hall of Fame and all three are volleyball legends with ties to Long Beach State.

Misty May-Treanor, Brian Gimmillaro and Danielle Scott-Arruda will all be honored at the 57th annual Sports Night Banquet to be held by the club next February, which is when they will also be officially inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Gimmillaro has been the head coach of women’s volleyball at LBSU for 28 seasons and has brought the school’s teams to three national championships, eight Final Fours while accumulating for himself more than 700 wins and a membership in the American Volleyball Coaches Hall of Fame.

May-Treanor, a former player for Gimmillaro at LBSU, recently retired after this summer’s Olympics after winning an unprecedented third gold medal in beach volleyball. She is often regarded as the best volleyball in the world, indoors or on the sand.

Scott-Aruda was also a player for Gimmillaro in the early 90s and won simultaneous awards for her volleyball and basketball skills—the first athlete in conference history to be all-conference in two sports. She is also the first American volleyballer to play in five Olympic games.
