Four Long Beach high school basketball players—two from St. Anthony and two from Poly—were among 814 across the country nominated to play in this year’s men’s and women’s McDonald’s All American Games.

Roschon Prince of Poly and Brian Wright of St. Anthony High School were among those nominated for the men’s team and Kendall Cooper of St. Anthony and Keyla Morgan of Poly were nominated for women’s. In total 31 of the nominees were from Southern California high schools.

McDonald’s hosts the annual games as a way to provide student athletes with more opportunities for playing exposure, but it is also a charity event with all net proceeds benefitting Ronald McDonald House Charities.

“Throughout its 35-year history, the McDonald’s All American Games have featured top basketball talents including Kobe Bryant, Alonzo Mourning, Magic Johnson, Kevin Garnett, LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Durant,” said a press release on the nominations. “More than 1,100 athletes have challenged themselves on and off the court to earn the right to sport the McDonald’s All American Games jersey.”

This year’s nominees, which were announced last week, were selected by high school coaches, principals and members of the McDonald’s All American Games Selection Committee and will compete for 48 coveted spots in this year’s Games.

The final roster of 24 boys and 24 girls who will play in the 2013 Games will be announced during the McDonald’s All American Games Selection Show on ESPNU on February 14 at 2:00PM Pacific time. The 36th Annual Boys Game will tip-off on Wednesday, April 3 at 6:30PM from Chicago’s United Center and will broadcast live on ESPN. The 12th Annual Girls Game will precede the Boys Game, beginning at 4PM and will broadcast live on ESPNU.
