Hilary Corno, a 37-year-old resident of San Diego, ended up clocking in at two hours, 55 minutes and 35 seconds for the 26-mile, 385-yard long run. The second fastest speed—three hours, four minutes, and eighteen seconds—went to 30-year-old Jill Christ of Goleta, Calif.

Lenin Bonilla Castro, a 25-year-old Nicaraguan, won the race at two hours, 36 minutes and 16 seconds, just 47 seconds ahead of runner-up Ricardo Ramirez, a 40-year-old from Sun Valley.

In addition to the traditional marathon—which drew runners from around the region—the day included other events which are more communally driven. Multiple activities are planned each year that appeal to those who aren’t trained enough (or simply not keen on) running the full 26 miles.

A half marathon, the course of which runs entirely along the shoreline, as well as a Bubba Gump Shrimp Company-sponsored 5K (appropriately called “Run Forrest Run”) were available for those wanting to run shorter distances.

The Aquarium of the Pacific hosted their Kids Fun Run event, where some 2,000 kids—some dressed as marine animals—ran for a mile while being cheered on by some of the Aquarium’s beloved creatures, including Lola, the talking cockatoo.

And Volkswagen hosted a 26-mile bike ride paralleling the marathon path, encouraging bikers to simply enjoy the view or bike for speed in a way that allowed riders to partake in the marathon with their wheels instead of their feet.
