2:01pm | Five Long Beach Shore Aquatics water polo teams have qualified to compete in the National Junior Olympics slated for July 30 – Aug. 2 in Irvine.
A 10-and-under co-ed team, 12-and-under boys team, 14-and-under boys team, 16-and-under boys team and 18-and-under boys team all qualified to head to the national competition.
The teams each battled it out against 11 other teams in their respective age groups during the qualifying matches, which ended with the 10 and under team placing third, the 12 and under team placing third, the 14 and under team placing fifth, the 16 and under team placing eighth and the 18-and-under team placing fourth.
All five teams are playing in the highest brackets, according to Long Beach Shore Aquatics.
A number of Olympic hopefuls, including Chay Lapin, Tony Acevedo, Adam Wright, Ryan Bailey, Tim Hutton, Matt Sagehorn, Lauren Silver and Lauren Wenger, who all currently play on the Men’s and Women’s national water polo teams, all hail from Shore Aquatics.
