Long Beach State point guard Casper Ware continued his campaign for 2010-11 Big West Conference Player of the Year in a big road win over the UC Davis Aggies on Thursday night, scoring 23 points on 7-7 shooting from the field to bring the 49ers to a 9-2 conference record with the 93-69 victory.

Ware made four 3-pointers, handed out seven assists and five steals as four other Long Beach players scored in double figures and the team shot a whopping 64% from the field. Forward T.J. Robinson returned to his sharp form with 22 points and 11 rebounds, while frontcourt mate Eugene Phelps added 11 and 9.

It was the first game in twelve days for the 49ers, who hold a commanding lead over the rest of the conference field heading down the stretch toward the upcoming Big West Tournament.

“When you have a layoff like that it can go one way or another,” said head coach Dan Monson. “Certainly it proved to help us.  We had a lot of energy and guys were focused.  They are in a good place right now. Defensively that is as good a first half as we have played, but we still have a lot to work on.  We have to sustain it better but just getting a road win is good and we move on now and get ready for Northridge.”
