They were knocking on the door of individual and team titles once again, but after a strong final round, the Long Beach State women’s golf team finished fourth in the Wave Invitational.  They shot a 307 in Wednesday’s final round at the Moorpark Country Club. The 49ers recorded a 306 on Tuesday to finish with a two-round score of 37-over par 613.

Tournament host Pepperdine won the team title by nine strokes over second place UNLV as the Waves finished with a three-over 579 (283-296). Brigham Young (595) came in third, while New Mexico State (622) finished in fifth followed by Cal State Northridge (634).  Senior All-American Kay Hoey and freshman Lee Lopez both tied for eighth as they finished with a four-over 148. Hoey carded a three-over 75 in the final round to move up one spot in the standings, while Lopez shot an even-72 to improve from 15th in the opening round.

Junior Brenda Chhuor recorded with an 81 on Wednesday for a 13-over 157 to finish in 24th. Sophomore Lindsey McAtee improved by two strokes for a 79 to finish tied for 27th, while Reina Rogers carded an 82 to finish in 34th.  Taylore Karle of Pepperdine won the individual medalist by one-shot over Maggie Yuan and Natalia Jimenez of BYU with a five-under 139.  The 49ers return to action Mar. 30-Apr. 1, at the Anteater Invitational hosted by UC Irvine. The three-day tournament will take place at the Dove Canyon Country Club in Dove Canyon.
