10:20am | The Long Beach City College men’s golf team shot a two-round 770 to finish in third place out of 10 teams at the 2011 Southern California Regional Championships on Monday at the Bermuda Dunes Country Club. With their top-four finish, the Vikings automatically qualify for next week’s State Championships.
LBCC was consistent, shooting 385 in both the morning and afternoon rounds. Foothill Conference rival and host College of the Desert shot 379-377—756 to win the team title. Glendale was second (386-379—765), followed Long Beach (770, and Santiago Canyon (384-389—773) to round out the state championship qualifiers.
Sophomore Peter Prescott (Sydney, Australia) led the Vikings, shooting a five-over-par 77-72—149 to finish tied for eighth place. Freshman Patrick Jung (Kennedy High School) was three strokes back (78-73—151) to tie for 13th place.

The 2011 California Community College Athletic Association Men’s Golf State Championship is set for May 16 at the Kings Country Club in Hanford. Long Beach will look to its eighth state title and first since 2001. Head coach Paul Chafe is also in search of his fifth state championship.
