4:01pm | The Long Beach City College men’s volleyball team cruised to a three-set sweep of visiting El Camino College on Wednesday night in a Western State Conference match at LBCC, where the Vikings won by scores of 25-22, 25-20, and 25-21 for their seventh consecutive victory.

Long Beach (8-2, 3-0 WSC) stalled early in Set 1, trailing El Camino 16-10. But behind the serving of sophomore Chris Austin (Henderson, Nev.), the Vikings rallied for eight straight points. Sophomore Devon Taylor’s (Lakewood High School) kill put Long Beach up for good at 17-16 while another kill from sophomore Parker Del Re (Highland, Ariz.) closed out the scoring run.

The Vikings had an easier time in Set 2. Long Beach jumped out to a 6-2 lead thanks to three early kills from Taylor and never looked back. Taylor added four more kills in Set 3, including the match-winner. He led LBCC with 11 kills and added five digs with two aces.

Del Re and sophomore Kris Johnson (Lakewood High School) both totaled 10 kills and two blocks, while Austin had a match-high 37 assists to go with four kills.

Hunter Hovland led El Camino (4-5, 0-2 WSC) with 14 kills. Nick Demarco posted 11 kills and four digs, while Joseph Tanuvasa totaled 32 assists.

Long Beach returns to action on Saturday, when it travels to Santa Barbara City College for a 6 p.m. WSC match.
