Sophomore Brennan Metzger has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team, one of three outfielders selected for District 8, which includes four conferences, the Big West, Pac-10, West Coast and WAC.

Metzger, a sophomore outfielder from San Marcos, Calif., has started all but one game for Long Beach State in 2010, hitting .340 with 15 doubles and has been hit by 17 pitches, most in the Big West His .434 On-Base Percentage is tenth in the conference, and Metzger had a 19-game hitting streak earlier in the season, longest on the team.

Nominees for the award must be either a sophomore, junior or a senior, with a GPA over 3.3 and having played in over 50 percent of the team’s games. Recipients are then chosen for their best balance of athletic and academic success.

A criminal justice major with a 3.79 GPA, Metzger is eligible for Academic All-America consideration as a first team selection. Metzger could become the second All-America selection, joining Shane Peterson, who was a first-team All-District selection in 2008 before earning All-America honors, the last Dirtbag to receive either honor.
