Two Long Beach Middle Schools kept up the great season they’ve been having with All-City Championships in girls’ track over the weekend, as Cubberley won the Division II Title while Stanford took the Division I Title.  The Cubberley girls already won the Div. II Title in girls’ volleyball and basketball, so the track title makes it 3 in a row for the Lady Cubs.  Stanford scored their 2nd All-City Title in less than five days as the Stanford boys took the Basketball Title over the previous weekend.

Division I highlights include Stanford’s Ariana Washington’s triple wins in the Long Jump (16′ 9), 100M & 200M.  Teammate Sammy Reinhart soared 4′ 7 to win the H.J. while several Stanford Hawks chipped in with well-rounded scoring.  Hughes got their licks in as Jessica Gonzales won both the 800M & 1600M while teammate Catrina Lloyd-Rodriguez captured the Shot Put title.  Hughes won both the relays, but Stanford was not far behind finishing 2nd to balance off the scoring.  DeMille’s Mariah Dougan won the 400M as we say good-bye to long-time DeMille coach, Maggie Del Rio.  DeMille will be closing at the end of the year, taking with them several decades of outstanding sports competition.

In Division II competition, Grace Schmidt-Beck led the way for Cubberley with an awesome win in the   Shot Put (29′ 3) while teammate Katelyn Davis went 4′ 9 to win the High Jump!  Cubberley’s Michaela Andrade took the 400M and also anchored the Cubs’ championship Mile Relay team! Newcomb edged  out Lindsey for the Runner-Up spot as the Spartan’s Laura Lacomb won the 800M while teammate  Amaris Sherlock won the 200M.  Lindsey’s Melanee Williams took the 100M and anchored the Falcon’s championship 4 X 100M Relay team.  Teammate Flower Wideman won the L.J. while Monroe’s Kathy Carmona took the 1600M.
