Long Beach is celebrating the achievements of its many past and present Olympic athletes tomorrow afternoon with a parade that will feature a handful of local medal-winners just back from London.

The Parade of Olympians, which begins at 2PM in Belmont Shore, will include three-time beach volleyball gold medalist Misty May-Treanor, Naples resident and gold medal swimmer Jessica Hardy and 1968 pole vault gold medalist Bob Seagren.

Paralympian Angela Madsen, just back from an outstanding performance in London and a visit to the White House, will be in the parade showing off her shot put bronze medal. Other participating Olympians include cyclist Tony Cruz and kayaker Cathy Marino.

“This is going to be a great event for the entire city,” said Mayor Bob Foster about the parade, which begins at the intersection of Second Street and Livingston Drive. It will head east, turn right on Bayshore Avenue, then turn right onto Ocean Boulevard, where it will proceed to the Belmont Plaza Pool.

Streets will remain open during the parade. The Long Beach Police Department will be escorting it and cars will be allowed through immediately after the parade has passed.

After the parade, the public is invited to “meet and greet” the athletes at McKenna’s On The Bay in Seaport Village. The 3:30PM reception is co-hosted by the Long Beach Century Club and Long Beach Aquatic Capital of America Foundation.
