Reports From LBSU
Heather Moody, Long Beach State’s lead assistant coach for both men’s and women’s water polo, has accepted a coaching position with USA Water Polo. Moody will be the head coach for the USA women’s junior national team and will also serve as an assistant coach with the women’s senior national team.
Moody has served as an assistant coach for the past two seasons under head coach Gavin Arroyo at Long Beach State, working with both the men’s and the women’s programs. She is also a 2010 inductee to the USA Water Polo Hall of Fame.
“[Leaving Long Beach State] was a hard decision to make, the men’s and women’s teams were a great group of athletes to work with,” said Moody in a statement. “The University has been a great avenue for me to grow as a coach and working the team and Gavin has given me more than I can say.”
Moody will finish out the 2010 season with the Long Beach State women’s water polo team and then return to Team USA, where she was previously a player and a coach. Moody was a two-time Olympic Medalist, winning Silver in 2000 before earning a Bronze in 2004, and then served as an assistant coach during the team’s run in the Beijing Olympics in 2008, where the team won a Silver Medal.
In 2005, Moody served as the head coach of the senior team while leading the squad to a silver medal at the World Championships in Montreal. Moody will replace Kyle Utsumi as the head coach of the USA women’s junior national team.
