“Long Beach State sophomore defender Nicole Hubbard scored the clinching pair of goals in a 4-1 victory at #25 Missouri on Sept. 6, giving the 49ers their first win over a ranked opponent since 2005. Hubbard also led an LBSU defense that yielded only two shots on goal (10 total).

With 15 minutes left in regulation, the outcome still was very much in doubt with the visitors owning a 2-1 lead thanks to Jenny Soza’s goal at 73:40. But Hubbard then scored twice in a span of 2:26 (giving the 49ers three scores in five minutes) to secure the road win. Hubbard pushed the score to 3-1 (’77) on a combination play that included Karina Camacho’s rightside cross and the ensuing oass from Whitney Velez. Moments later (’79), Hubbard snapped home a header (via another Camacho cross) for the final margin.

Hubbard was an all-BIg West Conference performer in 2008 (3G-4A), after amassing 144 career goals at Mayfair High School (she also played for the Infinity club team). Her grandfather Dick Hoerner played in the NFL, with the Los Angeles Rams.”
