DUST PLUS: Confessions of a Reluctant Technologist

When I was a “wee lad” (as opposed to a “we lad”), my OCD for following sports teams would find me on occasion sneaking in an unlocked door, gate or tunnel. Later, with my favorites farther away, my connectivity usually involved long-distance phone calls.  Some times a dear friend would take his phone off the hook and put it next to the radio. And remember, there were no unlimited minutes back then.

By Reginald Akpata | Hands down Long Beach, we can bring star athletes back to Long Beach so that–like Jessica Hardy–who narrated the enormous lift that seeing US champions in the pool with her gave her, we can give this opportunity to Long Beach hopefuls and offer it at home. We can’t keep tying the hands behind the backs of Long Beach swimmers and call ourselves the “Aquatic Capital of America” while we claim talent that is being fully developed elsewhere!

Ordinary Folks and Extraordinary Events

Today we reminisce about a couple of baseball people that I have had the pleasure to spend a bit of time with…young star Troy Tulowitzki, one of the biggest sporting donors among 49er alums and journeyman manager Clint Hurdle, Tulo’s skipper at Colorado and now the NL Manager of the Year for his resurrection of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
