For nine hours on Saturday night, 16 teams of saltwater fishermen floated around Alamitos Bay and surrounding Long Beach waters in the hopes of catching the big bass that would help them win Saltwater Bass Series’ Long Beach Night Event.
Last weekend the Dirtbags got 11 hits…all weekend. Arizona State won by a combined score of 21-2 thanks to back-to-back shutouts by Trevor Williams and the combo of Ryan Kellogg, Alex Blackford and Matt Dunbar.

How long has it been since you played tetherball? In grade-school, maybe? Now you can play just about anytime downtown, without having to set foot on campus.
It is all about the F word for the 49ers and not just their nickname. The other F is Fullerton whose men’s team is the first round foe for #1 LBSU and their women’s team the first game for the #5 seeded Ladies of the Beach.
The UCLA baseball team (8-2) was picked to finish second in the Pac-12 Conference’s preseason coaches’ poll. Long Beach State (6-6) was picked to finish third in the Big West conference. Stanford was selected first in the PAC preseason coaches’ poll, earning 5 of 11 possible first-place votes to give them 93 points.

Long Beach State athletics has a rich history of one name sporting stars. There was Misty and Tulo and Longo and Casper and Nadia and so many more. Through it all perhaps the bottom line MVP was a character named “Mo” as shortened for “Momentum.”
Now to home folks and visitors alike, please take no offense to what we write here, bit truthfully for the baseball combatants from Seattle and Long Beach U’s there is no offense.
