The week that was and the week that will be in LBSU Athletics

The last napkin entry came at 8PM Sunday night with the accompaniment of a Beach Hooligan choir and a cow bell orchestra. The hooligans are the official support group of Beach soccer but for the first 85 minutes of an almost coolish evening on the pitch. In fact the probable outcome looked eerily similar to the first of a 96-hour Niner sporting marathon.

After placing seventh at last year’s National Guard FLW College Fishing Western Conference Championship—and expressing concerns over the harsh conditions at this year’s competition site—the Cal State Long Beach team of Justin Gangel and Alex Cox took first place at this year’s WCC.

In preparations for this weekend’s three day FLW College Fishing Western Conference Championship at Utah Lake, Cal State Long Beach senior Justin Gangel made the 10-hour drive to the site and fished it for an entire week straight.

Long Beach resident Angela Madsen will be representing Team USA at the 2012 Paralympic Games, which begin Wednesday. Madsen holds the world record in the shotput and the American record in the javelin, and she’ll be competing in both events in London.

For a September to remember, the 49er faithful spend their time looking at newcomers, nagging injuries (neuromuscular issues) and finding faith. The newcomers have stepped up pretty well for the ladies of soccer and volleyball, the uncertain body parts seem like the annual curse of Beach athletics. And faith, well, you can’t have enough faith.
