The Long Beach City College men’s swimming & diving team needed a win in the final event of the 2012 South Coast Conference Championships and got just that to finish tied for first place and earn a co-conference championship with Chaffey College on Saturday at Pasadena City College.

Tournament most valuable player Rob McLean totaled 15 kills and five blocks to help lead Long Beach City College to a 3-1 (25-22, 23-25, 25-22, 26-24) win over Orange Coast College in the championship final of the 2012 California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Men’s Volleyball State Championship on Saturday night at LBCC’s Hall of Champions Gym.

Rob McLean and Jo’Lon Clark posted 16 kills to help lead host Long Beach City College to a 3-1 win over Irvine Valley College in Semifinal #2 of the 2012 California Community College Athletic Association Men’s Volleyball State Championship on Thursday night. Long Beach, champions of the Western State Conference, won the match by scores of 25-20, 24-26, 25-21, 25-19 to advance to Saturday’s state championship final match at 7:00pm against Orange Coast College.

A Long Day, Night, and Short Sunday: Dirtbags Win Three and Find First Place
Sunshine was what the fandom desired on a Saturday at Blair Field. The buckets of rain that flattened everybody on Friday was replaced by cool but pleasant weather on Saturday. For UCSB, riding high this season, it was a match with traditional power Long Beach. You could almost see the blood rushing into the players’ brains, except that for shortstop Matt Duffy is was blood in the dugout.

They Hit, They Pitch, and Now These Gauchos Want to Kick Sand on the Beach
Santa Barbara baseball has languished outside of the Big West trophy room, and frankly, they seldom get the attention of the top dogs—Fullerton, Irvine, Long Beach and even Riverside. This year under new skipper Andrew Checketts the Gauchos (17-14, 4-2) are trying to fix that image.
