The Long Beach City College baseball team suffered a 6-0 non-conference loss to visiting Golden West College on Thursday at Joe Hicks Memorial Field.

Tipoff for the Long Beach State men’s basketball game against UC Irvine on Wednesday, February 29, has been moved to 7 p.m. at the Walter Pyramid.

The Long Beach City College softball team drew a season-high 16 walks while freshman starting pitcher Frances Campoy (Santa Fe HS) tossed a one-hitter in a 16-0 five-inning South Coast Conference win over visiting El Camino College Compton Center on Tuesday at LBCC.

Both the baseball teams went East to find opening weekenders. Southern Cal brought in Jacksonville, a well regarded program in the baseball rich state of Florida, and Long Beach hosted Virginia Commonwealth, a well-connected team in the heart of the basketball rich ACC. Strong pitching (USC gave up a mere eight runs in three games) helped the Boys of Troy sweep but it took timely trickeration for LB to get a 2-1 series win.

Long Beach City College has been named the No. 7 seed for the upcoming 2012 California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Women’s Basketball Southern California Regional Playoffs.

Sophomore Steven Gallardo (Hamilton HS) struck out nine batters and scattered five hits over seven innings to help lead the Long Beach City College baseball team to a 2-1 non-conference win at Joe Hicks Memorial Field on Thursday.

This just might be the perfect pairing to open a college baseball season for Long Beach State and Virginia Commonwealth. Mid Majors in the shadow of a big town, Richmond is fighting for ink in the DC region and Long Beach the same from LA.

The Long Beach City College men’s volleyball team continued its dominance early in the season as the Vikings cruised to a 3-0 sweep over visiting Palomar College on Wednesday.

At the men’s volleyball post game social Saturday night Coach Andy Read had the floor and then said “ok let’s have all the seniors stand up.”
