Alexsandr Petrovic scored three goals to lead the No. 8 Long Beach State 49ers in a, 11-6, loss to the No. 3 Stanford Cardinal in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Conference game Saturday afternoon at the Long Beach State 49er Campus Pool.
Long Beach State (8-10, 1-4 MPSF) trailed the entire match falling behind, 2-0, before 49er Shane Luthscored a goal with 3:41 left in the first period. Alexsandr Petrovic scored a goal with just :04 seconds remaining in the first period to round out the scoring for The Beach in the first half.
The Cardinal (17-1, 5-0 MPSF) were led by MPSF leading scorer Drac Wigo who scored a game-high five goals for Stanford including two in the first period.
The Beach’s Justin Koeppen and Matt Farrington scored the remaining goals for the 49ers. Goalie Derek Wiebe-Bailey had a game-high seven saves for The Beach.
Long Beach State is at home again tomorrow to take on No. 2 Cal at 12:00 p.m. PT. 49er head coach Gavin Arroyo was a first-team All-American at Cal in 1993, and helped the Bears to three National Championships in his time there.
