The AP is reporting that two men have been charged with attempted murder in the shooting of USC track star and Poly alum Bryshon Nellum on October 31st, 2008. The men, Travon Reed and Horasio Kimbrough, both 21, were also charged with gang and gun counts, according to Deputy District Attorney Eric Harmon.
The AP says bail was set for Reed at $2 million and Kimbrough was denied bail—if convicted on all counts, they apparently each face up to 50 years to life in a state penitentiary. Both Reed and Kimbrough are known gang members, and the high bail/denial of bail reflects that.
Nellum continues to recuperate with the hope of renewing his bright career, and we at the Post are incredibly happy to hear that the LAPD is moving forward with this case, and that they’ve identified the men they believe are the shooters—in a suspected gang shooting more than three months past, the odds of that happening were relatively slim. Reed and Kimbrough will be in court February 23rd for their preliminary hearing, according to the AP.
