It was the headline of the night, and I wish I would’ve thought of it: Phillies Chase Series Back To NY
Everyone wants to call Derek Jeter “Mr. November” because with the added Wild Card we play the World Series in the eleventh month. That, and he’s a Yankee like Mr. October Reggie Jackson.
It’s time to stop all that. The real Mr. November is LB Poly grad Chase Utley.
With two more home runs in Game Five last night Utley tied the record for most World Series homers (5) with Mr. October/Reggie Jackson. His first inning three-run bomb set the tone, and the seventh inning solo shot provided some much needed breathing room for the Philly win to send it back to New York for Game Six.
To be honest, it’s about time someone got on base for the red hot second baseman. He wasted no time cashing it in by putting the first pitch over the fence in the first inning. Utley finished the night 2-for-3 with a walk, 4 RBI, 3 runs scored and a stolen base. He is the second player with two multi-home run games in the World Series (first time in 29 years) and his seven career World Series home runs are the most by a second baseman.
What did he have to say after the game?
“At some point, not right now, maybe I’ll look back on it and see what kind of special moment it is,” Utley said. “But right now, our goal is to win two more games.”
Boss. Well qualified to represent the LBC.
We will keep tabs on Utley as the series comes to an end, but here’s a question to ponder: let’s say the Phillies win Game Six and it’s a close one in the deciding seventh game. With the Yankees up 3-1 and the bases loaded in the ninth inning (CC Sabathia still on the hill) do you intentionally walk Utley to get to Howard?
