A report Saturday afternoon from www.golfweek.com says Long Beach State’s men’s golf coach Bill Poutre has resigned his position with the university, and is headed back east with his family.  Poutre had been with the school for two seasons, and was a highly touted hire after a brief but successful tenure at Hartford.

Poutre told golfweek.com, “It was time and for family reasons, I am going to pursue other opportunities on the East Coast.”

The news comes just a few hours before Mike Weathers is set to coach his last Dirtbag game at Blair Field—but while Weathers’ replacement, current assistant Troy Buckley, is set to be named head coach on Tuesday, the golf program will search for a new leader for the men’s team.

Poutre leaves behind some solid players, including incoming freshman Chien Yao Hung, one of the higher-ranked recruits to commit to the school in recent history.
