We focused more on the 20 Moore League players who signed their national letters of intent on Wednesday, but joining them (they’re on our interactive map, as well) are eight members of the Long Beach City College Vikings, who will move on to continue playing on Saturdays.
Wide receiver Stephen Burton tops the list and will take his talents to the Southeastern Conference and the University of Kentucky. Burton was a first-team All-State and All-Southern Conference selection. He finished second in the state with 18 touchdowns.
The list of signees also includes defensive lineman Joe Faagata (Miles University), defensive back George Aludogbu (West Virginia State University), defensive back Scotty Miranda (Humboldt State University), and defensive back Markeis Carmichael (Azusa Pacific University).
Defensive end Bryan Braman (West Texas A&M University), offensive lineman Phil Vournazos (Stony Brook University), and quarterback Josh Powell (Harding University) have all signed and are already attending classes at their respective schools this spring.
Head coach Mike Reisbig also expects running back Darren Tubbs, offensive lineman Steven Peguero, linebacker Reggie Reams, wide receiver Reggie Richardson, and wide receiver Marco Perkins to sign with schools in the following weeks.
“We were a freshman-oriented team this year,” said Reisbig. “So I think we did a really good job of getting eight of our 13 sophomores out to four-year schools.”
The Vikings look to improve on their 4-6 overall record in 2008. Long Beach opens the 2009 schedule on September 5 against L.A. Harbor College.
