The visiting Temecula Valley Bears scored early and pitcher Brooke White took it from there, striking out 16 Millikan Rams and allowing just one hit as the at-large bid from the Southwestern League cruised to a 7-0 victory. White gave up a leadoff single to Brittany Adler and then struck out 15 of the next 19 batters she faced. At one point she struck out eight Rams in a row.
“Wow, they didn’t need much more than the pitcher and catcher today,” said Millikan coach Don Harper of the Bear’s battery, White and Chelsea Goodacre. “You have to score runs to win, but I’m still really proud of this group. They had the best week of practice all year… and they left it all out there on the field. We were just out matched today.”
The Bears jumped on the score board early when the fourth batter of the game, Tiffany McIntosh, sent a 2-0 pitch over the wall in left-center for a two-run home run. Temecula added two more in the third inning on sacrifice flies from McIntosh and Katie Cleary. Millikan pitchers Elizabeth Gonzalez and Brooke Cullison did well to limit the Bears once they got past the initial onslaught, but with White in the circle, one run was plenty.
“We’ve got so many kids coming back, it’s exciting,” said Harper. “We just keep getting better with experience.” The Rams finish 15-14 and 8-4 in the Moore League.
