Another Fall semester means another chance for the Long Beach State men’s basketball team to make a run at returning to the NCAA tournament, something it hasn’t done since the 2011 season. However, the return of last year’s leading scorer Mike Caffey and an infusion of a talented recruiting haul and transfers from other programs could see the 49ers’ season continue into the madness of March.
The number two seeded Long Beach State rugby team advanced to its fourth consecutive Sweet 16 appearance by defeating the University of San Diego 60-12 and capturing the inaugural Gold Coast Championship and its third overall title in a row.
With the madness of March culminating Monday with the crowning of this year’s champion, the focus of every college basketball coach in America left out of or sent home early from this year’s big dance turns to next year and their incoming batch of freshman. And if representation at the CIF State Championships in Sacramento this past weekend is indicative of things to come, Cal State Long Beach’s Dan Monson has reason to smile.

Long Beach State has announced the hiring of Lindsey Romine as the Assistant Athletic Director of Development. Romine will be in charge of the Annual Fund as well as sport-specific fundraising programs for 49er athletics.
