Trust me SoCal baseball fans, I know how hard it is to watch this Yankees/Phillies World Series when we were so close to a Freeway Series.  I don’t mean to rub it in but it could be a long while before we get that close again.  But hold your head up Dodger/Angels fans and remember this:

‘Tis better to have won and lost than to never have won at all.

Don’t let the fact that we didn’t make it to the Fall Classic spoil your enjoyment of this NY/Philly tilt.  These are the two best teams in baseball.  And look at the story lines already off and running: Pedro returning to NY, two former Indian aces in CC and Lee dealing in the Series, all these home runs, two bullpens that have late game heroics written all over them, and of course, LB Poly grad Chase Utley…

Speaking of Utley…
He had a chance to play the role of hero again last night in the eighth inning with two on and one out.  Facing playoff legend Mariano Rivera he battled in a seven-pitch at bat, but ended up rolling over into an inning-ending double play.  It was a bad call, and not even Utley taking off his helmet to flash that Gordon Gekko hairdo was going to change the Philly luck on Thursday night.  Seriously, how does he get that hair helmet done?  Gel?  Egg Whites?  Murray’s Pomade Wax?  It must take twice as long to get it out than it does to get it down…

Speaking of getting it down…
Sit your butt down in a comfy chair and watch some NBA hoopin’ right now!  Let this be my official “Happy Basketball Season” everybody.  As the Lakers try to repeat (don’t worry I’ll have plenty to say about the Purple & Gold) and the Clippers try to matter (don’t worry, we’ll have plenty to laugh about) it’s the calm before the storm.  We all know the 2010 free agent fire sale is coming, but instead, enjoy those players in question reach the peak of their respective game.  LeBron, Carmelo, D-Wade, CP3 and D. Williams…

Speaking of young talent…
The NHL needs to rely heavily on theirs if they have any chance of being relevant again.  With Sid The Kid and AO doing their thing, it wouldn’t hurt to have another youngster step up with Malkin on the shelf…

Speaking of on the shelf…
Take that NFL betting handbook and leave it there.  How wacky is this week?  A 6-0 team is a 3pt underdog to a 3-3 team while another 3-3 team is a 13.5pt favorite and the Lions, yes the Detroit Lions, are a 4pt favorite.  I know, wtf…

Speaking of WTF…
What was Mike Leach thinking?  Check out this YouTube clip.  As funny as it is, he knows he will have to apologize for it, so what does it accomplish?  You know he saw one player being babied by his festively plump freshman girlfriend from “that” part of Texas, and he threw the entire team into the metaphor.  On second thought, I take that back, no more press conferences, he should just apologize to that one big-boned girl.  You know she saw that and knew exactly who coach was pointing at in the locker room.
