Three local prep baseball players drew high praise on Monday, being named to the All-C.I.F. Southern Section Division 1 team.

Lakewood High senior Nick Torres (P/IF/OF) and junior Shane Watson (P/OF) were named to the All-First Team, while junior Chase DeJong (P/OF) of Wilson High was awarded a place on the All-Second Team.

Torres and Watson led the Lancers to a first place finish in the Moore League and a 29-5-1 overall record, falling just short of the C.I.F. title game with a 10-4 loss to an underdog J.W. North team in the Semifinals. Torres was the Moore League co-MVP and will play for Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in the fall. Watson battled back from surgery on a broken shin to pitch some truly remarkable games for the Lancers.

DeJong and the Bruins finished their season as 25-7, similarly with a C.I.F. Semifinal loss to Esperanza by a 6-2 score. He was the other end of Torres’ co-MVP and figures to dominate the strike zone against any and all opponents next season.
