CIF FIRST ROUND
Girls’ Soccer, Friday Feb. 19th

Wilson vs. Simi Valley, Wilson High @ 3pm

The Bruins have been waiting for this.  Four years ago they won the National Championship, and now that group of seniors are looking for one last run at glory.  Wilson got a decent draw as the top seed from the Moore League and will begin the road against Simi Valley.  The number three seed from the Marmonte League hasn’t won a game this month with three losses and two ties.  A quick goal from Wilson could end it early.

Poly @ Santa Barbara, 3pm

Jackrabbits head coach Teri Collins put it perfectly yesterday when she said, “we’re ready to go, but we’re just not excited about traveling for longer than the actual game we’re playing.”

The second seed from the Moore League will hit Interstate-101 for a game against the Santa Barbara Dons, the number two seed from the Channel League.  Like Poly and Wilson, Santa Barbara lost and tied to the Channel champion, Buena.  The Dons lean a lot on forward Briana Lopez, who has scored more than half of their goals this year.

Lakewood @ Royal, 3pm

There’s not much information available for the top seed coming out of the Marmonte League, and that might be an advantage for the Lancers.  They have been dominate against any team not named Poly or Wilson, and it might be a good thing if they are thinking about their own game instead of worrying about Royal.

Lakewood head coach Scott Manson will look to isolate and feed his goal scorer Kassidy Hause, who has put it into the back of the net 31 times this season.  “An early goal will really help us.  When Kassidy scores we win, if she doesn’t we don’t.  If we can get it to her, we’ll go as far as she’ll take us.”

Millikan @ Esperanza, 3pm

The Rams lost to the Sunset powerhouse two years ago in the first round.  They are still buzzing from their overtime win over Claremont, and as head coach Dave Christensen put it after the wild card game, “we’re going to enjoy this one, and then see how it goes… we know Esperanza is going to be very good.  They are a program, we’re trying to build one.”
