Sophomore Brooke Turner has been named the Big West Pitcher of the Week the conference office announced Monday afternoon. It is Turner’s second honor of the season and 10th of her young career.

Turner was dominant in the circle last weekend, leading The Beach to a series sweep against UC Santa Barbara. She got the 49ers started on a high note, tossing a two-hit gem to earn her 23rd career shutout with a 4-0 victory.

Turner then came back in the finale with another outstanding effort, allowing one unearned run on six hits and one walk, while striking out six in a 6-1 win.

Overall, Turner posted a 2-0 record, 0.00 ERA and nine strikeouts against a hot-hitting Gaucho team that entered the weekend batting .295 with a league-high 318 hits and 171 runs.

Turner has already etched her name in the 49er career record books, ranking among the all-time top 10 in strikeouts (356), complete games (48), wins (42) and shutouts (23).

Long Beach State continues Big West play with its final regular season home series this weekend (April 25-26) as it welcomes Cal State Fullerton to the 49er Softball Complex for three key games. The action gets underway with a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at 1 p.m.
