statonLong Beach City College (LBCC) men’s basketball head coach Barry Barnes announced that two-year standouts Brandon Staton and Chris Spencer have both signed with four-year colleges and are set to begin classes this fall.

Staton (pictured left) will stay in Southern California to play at California State University, San Bernardino and Spencer will head east to Benedict College in South Carolina.

According to the LBCC announcement, Staton was named first-team All-State after leading the Vikings with a 16.7 points-per-game-average (PPG) as a sophomore this past season. He scored in the double digits in 26 of the 30 games he played in, including 29 points twice against state championship runner-up East Los Angeles College. Staton added 4.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game.

Staton was also named the South Coast Conference South Division Player of the Year and as a freshman, Staton was a first-team all-conference selection.

spencerCal State San Bernardino is led by head coach Jeff Oliver. The Coyotes play at the NCAA Division II level and are members of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).

Spencer (pictured right) picked up All-State honorable mention accolades after ranking second on the Vikings at a 15.4 PPG average this past season, according to the announcement. His 7.9 rebounds per game led LBCC and he scored in the double digits in 23 of his 30 games and posted double-doubles in seven games. On January 21, Spencer poured in a career-high 34 points to go with 13 rebounds.

Spencer was also named first-team All-SCC South Division for the second consecutive season.

Benedict College, led by head coach Fred Watson, is located in Columbia, South Carolina. The Tigers also compete at the NCAA Division II level and are members of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC).
