Long Beach Poly junior Deon Reid earned his third consecutive CIF Masters title in diving on Tuesday, May 17, after winning his second consecutive CIF Division II championship title on May 10.
 
9:45pm | Two high school students from Long Beach earned CIF division titles in diving last week, qualifying both to compete in Tuesday’s CIF Masters Meet in Irvine, where one walked away with the Masters title for the third consecutive year.

Long Beach Poly junior Deon Reid, a third-year varsity diver, won his second CIF division title at the Riverside Aquatics Complex on May 10, making him the reigning Division II boy’s champion.

On Tuesday, Reid defended his CIF Masters title at the Woollett Aquatic Center for a third straight year and broke his meet points record for the second consecutive year.
 
Last year, Reid was the 2010 Division I champion and the CIF Masters Champion in both 2009 and 2010, where he earned a few perfect “10s” on is dives.

Reid has been diving for several years and holds records at both the prep and club diving levels. Besides diving for Poly’s varsity swimming and diving team, he also dives with McCormick Divers in Long Beach. The diving club is coached by Debby McCormick and Charly Collins. 

Nyko BodnarFellow McCormick Diver Nyko Bodnar, a junior at St. Anthony High School, is also a third-year varsity diver. Bodnar competed on Wednesday, May 12, in Division III at the Riverside Aquatics Complex, where he for the third consecutive year won the division championship title.

On Tuesday, Bodnar placed eighth at the CIF Masters Meet, improving upon his 12th-place finish in 2010.

Bodnar was the Division IV champion in 2009 and 2010. He was also named a National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association All-American High School Diver in 2010.
