With the Moore League title on the line, the Bruins and Rams played one of the best games all year.

Millikan’s Jose Torres netted a 25th minute goal, and that’s all the Rams would need to keep the Wilson Bruins at bay, 1-0, and regain the Moore League crown.

The first twenty minutes were more of a rugby match than soccer, as both squads jockeyed for position.  Wilson used its set pieces to put pressure on Millikan, like in the first match between these two.  But the Rams got some good counter attack opportunities, and Torres broke through with a nice give-and-go in the middle from Ruben Sandoval.

In the second half, Millikan did to Wilson what other teams have been doing to the Rams.  Get the lead, and sit on it.  The Rams pulled their midfield back and stacked the box against the Bruin attack.

Wilson did have their chances (check out the video) but that’s been the story all year for the Bruins.

“I thought we were the better team today,” said Wilson coach Mark Hervin.  “They are a great team, but I don’t think they’ve been pressured like that before.  Like I told my boys, it’s a cruel game.”

“That was a great game,” said Millikan coach Rod Petkovic.  “The kids really raised their level of play to be champs.”
